Hiya, I’m Carrie Lynn

In 1999 I moved to Ottawa from small-town Cape Breton Island with dreams to make a big difference.
For 12 years I worked front-line for the City of Ottawa with people in deep poverty in the south end of the city. As a CUPE 503 member I got involved in our union originally to advance the rights of a growing cohort of temporary employees in our workplace.
I was elected to the Executive Council in 2005 as one of three 35-hour City of Ottawa Representatives. In 2013, I was elected to serve as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Local.
Being active with CUPE 503 opened a whole world of labour engagement and community organizing in our Province…it is where I realized being a member of Canada’s largest union could be the place where I would be supported to do high impact work.
Some highlights of my achievements include:
- Treasurer of the Canadian Union of Public Employees Union, Local 503;
- Treasurer of the Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care;
- Trustee serving the CUPE Education Workers Benefit Trust;
- Recipient of the 2017 Olivia Chow Child Care Champion Award through the Ontario Federation of Labour;
- Past CUPE Ontario Chair of the Social Services Sector representing 35,000 social service workers in Ontario;
- Past CUPE Ontario Municipal Workers Committee Area 3 Representative for Eastern Ontario;
- Recipient of the 2022 CUPE Ontario Sisters in Solidarity Award;
- Past CUPE Ontario representative on the Ontario Equal Pay Coalition;
- Graduate of the Harvard University Public Leadership Credential Program;
- Graduate of the Wharton School Executive Presence & Influence, Persuasive Leadership Development Program;
- Graduate of the Cornell University National Labour Leadership Initiative;

- Equal Voice member since 2017.
